Yesterday I got in touch with two prospects to ask them about the current state or their recruitment.

First I was able to reach senior Christian Webster out of the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland.  Christian is a 6-5 small forward and plays with the DC Assault on the AAU circuit.

The second player I was able to contact was Fairmont Heights High School guard Chaune Duffy.  Chaune also plays for a DC based AAU squad but he runs with the DC Blue Devils.

Both of these players are receiving interest from a variety of different schools.

Here is what Christian Webster had to say about his recruiting situation.

Eleanor Roosevelt High School (MD) guard Francis Ashe is a player attracting interest from various programs in the America East and Northeast Conferences.

Back in July we were able to catch Francis in action twice in one week at Hoop Group Camps.  The first time we saw him, Francis played extremely well knocking down runners and distributing the basketball.  He also showed quickness off the dribble and used a crossover, among other moves, to get to the rim.

On the second day we watched him Francis did much of the same things, but the runners were simply not falling for him.  Neither time we saw him did he show much of a perimeter game.

Only just yesterday we contacted Francis to get the latest update on his recruitment.  Here is what he told us.

Went back to some old game film last night to catch 3 future CAA players in one game.  The contest I watched was from the Rumble in the Bronx, which took place back in June of 2008.  The two teams that competed were the New England Playaz and the Juice All-Stars, both of which are loaded with talent.

The New England Playaz did not have all of their top guys for this game but still had plenty of future D-I players, including future Drexel Dragon Dartaye Ruffin.

The Juice All-Stars probably had even more D-I players including James Padgett who is heading to Maryland, along with a pair of Hofstra commits in Yves Jules and Devon “Fatty” McMillan among others.

This contest was fairly close throughout but in the end the Juice All-Stars pulled out the victory, winning by 10 points.

A number of players stood out in this contest and not only those future CAA players.  Here are the player evaluations from the game.

Update on two transfers from God’s Academy

God’s Academy in Texas is a school with a lot of talent, headlined by future Kentucky Wildcat KC Ross-Miller, but earlier in the season they lost two players who had been garnering Division-I interest of their own.

The two players that left God’s Academy are big man Waverly Austin, and combo guard EJ Jefferson.  Both players left for their own reasons but left around the same time.

When we spoke to Waverly he informed us that he left God’s Academy to get closer to home in Maryland.  Waverly has since transferred to Princeton day Academy back in Maryland.

EJ transferred back to Carrollton Ranchview High School where he previously attended before God’s Academy.

Shamon Cox is a 6-3 senior out of Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Back in April we caught Shamon in action at the Boo Williams Invitational playing for Team Stat.

What really stood out about his game was his ability to shoot the long ball.  He knocked down four shots from behind the arc in the game we saw.  Shamon was not only accurate with his shots but he also displayed a smooth stroke and quick release.

Besides his shooting Shamon also showed that he could handle the ball out on the break and he was able to block a shot on the defensive end of the court.  Shamon did appear a bit bulky but it did not seem to affect his game.

With Shamon's shooting ability he was sure to draw attention from schools, as teams are always looking for shooters.  Since we did not have a list of schools Shamon, we decided to contact him to find out what schools he is currently looking at.
