Michigan transfer to play basketball at UD
Thursday, 03 July 2008

ImageDelaware Online: Kendric Price will take his second shot at NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Delaware, the former Michigan Wolverine said Wednesday night.

Michigan announced at the start of preseason last year that Price, who would have been a redshirt sophomore, was not returning to the team under new coach John Beilein.

Price had been recruited by Beilein's predecessor, Tommy Ammaker, who termed his potential "enormous" coming out of Buckingham Brown & Nichols School in Cambridge, Mass. The Boston resident was widely rated as a top 100 recruit.

A 6-foot-8, 205-pound small forward, Price played a total of just 22 minutes in eight games for Michigan in 2006-07. He scored nine points on 4-for-7 field goals, was 1-for-4 in free-throw shooting and collected seven rebounds. Six of Price's points and three of his rebounds came in a win over Harvard.

Girard College Summer League (7/1/08)
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

By Brian Crownover

Next week is the start of the live period.  Before that action gets started, CAA Insider decided to head over to the Girard College Summer League to take in the action.  Some top Philly area high schools teams were on hand.  Here is a look at some of the top players.

Bartram

Tyrone Garland (2011, 5-11 PG)
Tyrone is quick ascending his way up the ladder and asserting himself as one of the top guards in Philadelphia. This evening he showed exactly what makes him so special. He almost single-handedly beat a talented All-Stars squad. Tyrone scored 36 points in the victory and was virtually unguardable. The springy guard can get into the lane with ease off the dribble. He changes directions and makes adjustments with such grace. His not the biggest guard, but Tyrone is very tough to stop when he's on. He loves shooting runners and pull up jumpers. Those are two shots which are very tough to defend. He's very good at attacking left and quickly switching the ball to his right hand for a finger roll finish. He did this several times. Tyrone also went directly at shot blocker Malcolm Gilbert (see below) and converted with a scoop finish. Tyrone had a stellar pull up game on this night. He hit shot after shot of that variety from all over the court. He has a pretty quick release.

Tyrone is certainly a score first guard, but he can setup his teammates too. He seems to have good vision and really likes making long passes in the open court. He doesn't look to dish off in half court sets once he starts attacking though. Tyrone does tend to force difficult shots from time to time. He also nearly hurt his team late in the game when they had the lead and he looked to push the ball rather than settle the offense down. It's hard to fault this playmaker for wanting to make something happen though. Tyrone will be participating in Reebok's All American Camp next week and if he plays anything like he did this week, he'll give fits to some of the nations best guards.

Armwood commits to Villanova
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

ImagePhiladelphia Inquirer: Villanova got an early start on its freshman basketball class of 2009 yesterday, receiving an oral commitment from Isaiah Armwood, a 6-foot-8 forward from Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Md., according to his high school coach.

Armwood averaged about 13.5 points and more than 10 rebounds during his junior season, when Montrose Christian finished 22-4 and in the national top 25.

"Isaiah is very athletic and can play inside and outside," Montrose Christian coach Stu Vetter said. "He was a freshman on our team when Kevin Durant [the 2008 NBA rookie of the year] was a senior."

Armwood chose Villanova over two other finalists, Texas and Syracuse. Guard Terrell Vinson, a Montrose Christian teammate, also is reported to be considering Villanova.

According to the Washington Post, Armwood backed out of tryouts for the USA Basketball under-18 team to concentrate on summer school.

Monday, 30 June 2008

Many of the top players from New Jersey took part in the Hoop Group Summer Showcase last weekend at Rutgers University. One of the surprise players from the event was a forward from the Garden State. Joseph Efese of St. Joseph's Regional put in a strong performance against Linden.

Joseph played well inside against one of New Jersey's best players, David Bruce. Joseph is a well built forward. He played a strong game on the inside and often converted around the rim. He not only finished well, but also showed he can put the ball on the floor and work in short space.

Joseph played a strong game on the boards. He's also athletic as he showed on a blocked shot.  New Jersey produces many top players so often guys like Efese slip through the cracks while others grab numerous headlines.  Joseph held his own with some of the Garden State's best at this event.
